John Stossel quoted me saying that Ann Coulter's words are "worse than damaging to conservatism -- they hurt the United States."

Stossel gave the impression that I was referring to several un-PC statements Coulter made about domestic personalities. In that context, my comment made no sense at all. In fact, my quote came from a 2005 blog post in which I referred to Coulter saying Canada is lucky to be "allowed to exist on the same continent" as the United States.

To the extent that Coulter is perceived as representative of the thinking of the American conservative movement, I thought that statement about our Canadian neighbors was unfortunate, and I still do.

I definitely do agree with Stossel's main point, that Coulter has a right to speak without being hit by pies.
